Great interiors, one room at a time
We started Interiors A Room At A Time because we believe design shouldn’t be overwhelming, expensive, or exclusive. Your home deserves to be beautiful — and it can get there one room at a time, at your pace, on your terms.
Most people don’t renovate their entire home in one go. They tackle the living room when they can. They finally sort the bedroom out after years of meaning to. They look at the kitchen and think — maybe next year. That’s not a lack of ambition. That’s real life. And it’s exactly the approach we’re built around.
Interiors A Room At A Time was born from a simple frustration: that most interior design content is aimed at people with unlimited budgets, empty properties, and a professional on speed dial. We wanted to build something different — a resource that meets people where they actually are, and helps them make genuinely good decisions about the spaces they live in every day.
“You don’t have to do everything at once. Start with one room. Make it right. Then move on to the next.”
— The Interiors A Room At A Time approachA property viewing, a conversation, and an idea that stuck
Ten years ago, Marcus was viewing a property in London — still running the small online vintage furniture marketplace he’d founded, connecting buyers and sellers of characterful pre-loved home pieces. At the same viewing, he got talking to Olivia, a freelance interior designer with over two decades of international experience, and her husband Dave, a builder with a deep specialisation in renovation and restoration. Three people with completely different backgrounds, but a shared fascination with the same thing: what makes a home work, and why so many of them don’t.

The People Behind It
Marcus grew up in Morganton, North Carolina, studied for a BFA at Kendall College of Art and Design, and spent the early part of his career building a deep understanding of the furniture and interiors industry — eventually founding a small online marketplace that brought buyers and sellers of vintage and pre-loved home furnishings together. It was a business built on a genuine belief: that characterful, well-made pieces from the past deserve a second life in someone’s home.
With over 18 years in the industry and nine years based in London, Marcus brings the creative direction, the eye for a good piece, and the connector’s instinct that holds Interiors A Room At A Time together. His background in the vintage and resale market means the site has always championed the idea that great interiors don’t require spending a fortune — just knowing where to look and how to put things together.
Olivia has spent 22 years working as a freelance interior design consultant across some of the world’s most demanding markets — with a significant portion of her career spent delivering high-end residential and commercial projects across the UAE. She has worked with clients who expect nothing less than exceptional and in environments where every detail matters, which means her eye for quality, proportion, and the way spaces work is trained at an extraordinary level.
What makes Olivia the perfect voice for a site like this is that she has never believed great design is only for people with unlimited budgets. The principles of good interior design apply in every home — it’s the application that changes. Her contribution to Interiors A Room At A Time is to translate genuinely expert thinking into advice that anyone can act on, one room at a time.
Dave is a traditional, time-served builder — the kind who learned his trade properly, worked his way through every aspect of construction, and built up a specialism across renovation, restoration, conversion, and modernisation projects. While Olivia understands how a room should look and feel, Dave understands what it takes to actually get it there — the structural realities, the sequencing of work, the things that look simple but aren’t, and the mistakes that are painfully easy to make without the right experience.
His presence on the site means that the practical side of home improvement is never glossed over. When Olivia says a wall could come down, Dave knows whether it should. When Marcus finds a beautiful reclaimed floor, Dave knows how to lay it properly. That combination of creative vision and on-the-ground expertise is what makes the advice on Interiors A Room At A Time genuinely trustworthy.
Every great home starts with one room
We don’t believe you need a blank canvas, a big budget, or a designer on retainer to have a home you love. You just need a starting point — one room, one good decision, and a little confidence that you can make it work. We’re here to give you all three.
What We Believe
Design is for everyone
Not just people with large budgets and empty properties. The principles of good design apply in every home — we just make them accessible.
One room at a time works
You don’t have to do everything at once. Starting somewhere — anywhere — and doing it well is infinitely better than waiting for the perfect moment.
Practical beats aspirational
Beautiful photography is lovely. Advice you can actually act on is better. We aim to be the second kind of resource, always.
Old things have value
From Marcus’s vintage marketplace roots — pre-loved, reclaimed, and well-made pieces from the past often beat anything you can buy new, at a fraction of the cost.
Which room is first?
Pick a room, start exploring, and let us help you make it somewhere you love. That’s all it takes to begin.
